What can Phi Delta Theta do for you?

So what exactly is a brother? The open motto of the fraternity is "One Man is no Man" and that is truly how every member of Phi Delta Theta goes about their daily business. A brother is someone who never hesitates to lend a helping hand. Whether it’s helping shovel an elderly woman's driveway or simply editing an essay for a friend, a member trained in the teachings of Phi Delta Theta always goes the extra mile to help his neighbor. When in University, it is important to stress the idea of community. After all, life and school are tough enough and we shouldn't have to walk through them alone. A common saying in our chapter is that brothers will be the first ones to arrive at your wedding and the last ones to leave at your funeral. The people we meet in University are often the ones who become our best friends. When we look back on our college years we will remember the names and faces of those who made our experience worthwhile.

So why should I join Phi Delta Theta? Our chapter at the University of Toronto has experienced first-hand the benefits and privileges of membership in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. From road trips across the United States where boarding is free at Phi Delta Theta chapters along the way, to job interviews organized by prominent alumni, the benefits of Phi Delt are unprecedented . Anytime a brother is in need of a place to stay for a night or two, a chapter is more than welcome to put him up. When there comes a time when you meet a brother from another province or state, you will have a pre-established connection with the person as you share a set of common values and beliefs. In a way, you know each other even though you have never met. Pretty cool, huh? Our alumni are the leaders of tomorrow's world and you will quickly find out that Phi Delts hold some of the most highly esteemed positions in the workplace. From the first man on the moon (Bro. Neil Armstrong) to the creator of Halo (Bro. Alex Seropian) Phi Delta Theta is constantly refining the quality of man that it produces. Some brothers haven’t been to a job interview since they joined, simply because being a Phi Delt is a strong recommendation for good character in a man. For networking what could be better than having 140, 000 pre- established connections across the world and a even more arising every day?

Have you ever participated in a group study session? We focus better and are more productive when the ones around us are working. In other words, the environment around you influences your performance. Come out and join us when we go to Robarts for late night coffee and a study session. We’ll make sure you don’t sleep away the exam period.

Don't have the time to spare? Everyone understands that time is important and we don't have much of it during the school year. Most of us are busy studying and some of us never leave our rooms. Let's admit it, sometimes we even pull all-nighters at the library and fall asleep in our books. If you are concerned that you can't make it to some monday meetings or weekly house events, just be confident that you are doing what you can. We try to organize meetings that work with everyone's schedule. Some say time management is the most important skill that you will walk away from University with. We can help you plan a schedule that suits your lifestyle. REMEMBER SCHOOL ALWAYS COMES FIRST.

Concerned about money? The cost of membership dues is less than $200 a semester which is cheaper than joining a soccer team or any other interest club. What you pay to join will come back to you in the long run as membership dues go toward funding exciting events, philanthropy fundraisers, dinners, road trips, and entertainment goods for the house. If you are worried about not being able to pay, we can help you with a payment plan or other means of payment via volunteer hours. In fact, we can help you find a part time job that will pay for your dues. Phi Delta Theta offers scholarships to students that achieve excellence in their field of study. The General Fraternity offers scholarship awards around $3,000. The latest recipient of a scholarship award was our current Recruitment Chair Vlad Toma. Aditionally, our chapter offers its own scholarship bursary of $700 to the member with a balance of high GPA, fraternity and community involvement. If you have any further questions about scholarships, please visit the International Phi Delta Theta website @ Phideltatheta.org or speak with our scholarship chairman @ info@uoftphidelts.com. Any good man that expresses a vested interest in the fraternity should not be denied membership due to his financial status.

Don't want your GPA to drop? The Phi Delta Theta chapter at U of T requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 to join. We have weekly optional study sessions and many places to study around the house. If your GPA drops we have many people willing to help tutor to bring it back up. In many cases, having help available when you need it and feedback from brothers who have already taken the course proves that your GPA actually rises after you join. Worldwide, Phi Delts posess some of the highest GPA's on campus.
